    • “I’m on the waiting list for a book – what should I read in the meantime?”
    • “I love this author – what else did she write?
    • “Are there any authors that write like this one?”
    • “I’m reading this series – what book comes next?”
    • “I found this book that I love – do you have any more like it?”

These are questions that the Keokuk Public Library staff answers every day – and now library staff and patrons have a tool to help them with the answers!

NoveList Plus by EBSCO, an on-line reference database, can do all of these things – search by Author, Title, or Series for books for all ages.  Do an Advanced Search and limit the results by subject, grade level, and even the author’s gender and nationality.  Limit your search to award winners or new titles.  Or just have fun browsing genres like Mystery, Horror, or Romance.

Reading suggestions might be the most valuable tool.  Library Director Emily Rohlfs found Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean Auel, and on the right side of the screen there is the heading “Search for More.”  “Now it will be a little easier to find a suggestion for an Auel fan – I can ask ‘Do you like historical fiction?  Novels about the Ice Age?  Prehistoric humans?’  With a search of NoveList I can quickly make a list of recommendations for the Jean Auel fan.  Now our reader can see what books we have by Kathleen O’Neal Gear and Sue Garrison.”

Patrons that want to use NoveList themselves can find a link on the library’s website www.keokuklibrary.org.  Talk to a member of the library staff for the EBSCO login and password.  It is the same login and password for all EBSCO databases, including Auto Repair, Small Engine Repair, and Home Improvement reference centers.

For more information, please talk to a member of the library staff – 210 N. 5th Street, or (319) 524-1483.
